तथा तत् पाण्डवं सैन्यं कर्णमासाद्य दीर्यते । जैसे जलका महान् प्रवाह किसी ऊँचे पर्वतसे टकराकर कई धाराओंमें बँट जाता है, उसी प्रकार पाण्डवसेना कर्णके पास पहुँचकर तितर-बितर हो जाती थी
tathā tat pāṇḍavaṃ sainyaṃ karṇam āsādya dīryate |
Sañjaya sprach: „So wurde das Heer der Pāṇḍavas, als es Karṇa erreichte, zerschlagen und zerstreut. Wie ein mächtiger Wasserstrom, der gegen einen hohen Berg prallt und sich in viele Arme teilt, so brach auch das pândavische Heer, als es auf Karṇa stieß, in Unordnung auseinander.“
