पश्यतां ते महाराज पुत्राणां चित्रयोधिनाम् | शकुने: सौबलेयस्य कर्णस्य च विशाम्पते,नरेश्वर! प्रजानाथ! विचित्र युद्ध करनेवाले आपके पुत्रोंके, सुबलपुत्र शकुनिके तथा कर्णके देखते-देखते यह सब हो रहा था
paśyatāṃ te mahārāja putrāṇāṃ citrayodhinām | śakuneḥ saubaleyasya karṇasya ca viśāmpate naraśvara prajānātha vicitra-yuddha-karṇevāle āpake putroṃke subalaputra śakunike tathā karṇake dekhate-dekhate yaha saba ho rahā thā |
Sañjaya sagte: „O großer König, Herr des Volkes, Gebieter der Menschen: All dies geschah vor den Augen deiner Söhne, jener Kämpfer von mannigfacher Tüchtigkeit, und ebenso vor den Augen Śakunīs, des Sohnes Subalas, und Karṇas. Während sie zusahen, entfaltete sich der schreckliche Lauf der Ereignisse.“
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores moral responsibility: catastrophic outcomes in war are not abstract or hidden—they unfold in full view of leaders and their allies. By addressing Dhṛtarāṣṭra with titles of kingship, Sañjaya implicitly reminds him that a ruler is accountable for what happens under his watch.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the ongoing events of the battle are occurring openly, before the eyes of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons as well as key supporters like Śakuni (son of Subala) and Karṇa—emphasizing their direct witness and involvement.
