Arjuna’s Rapid Advance and the Bhīma–Śakuni Encounter

The verse underscores the moral weight of vowed hostility and its consequences: the Saṁsaptakas, bound by a fierce pledge to engage Arjuna, meet destruction when confronted by steadfast prowess aligned with kṣatriya duty. It also highlights how symbols (the monkey-banner) and sound imagery (thunder-like roar) convey righteous resolve and the terrifying momentum of battle.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Arjuna has slaughtered the Saṁsaptaka warriors. Arjuna’s chariot—distinguished by the monkey-banner (Hanumān)—is described as roaring like thunderclouds, emphasizing the intensity of Arjuna’s advance and the battlefield’s overwhelming din.
