द्रौणायनिशरच्छन्न॑ न प्राज्ञायत किज्चन । बाणभूतमभूत् सर्वमायोधनशिरो महत्,द्रोणपुत्रके बाणोंसे आच्छन्न हो जानेके कारण वहाँ कुछ भी ज्ञात नहीं होता था। युद्धका वह सारा विशाल मैदान बाणमय हो रहा था
drauṇāyaniśaracchannaṁ na prājñāyata kiñcana | bāṇabhūtam abhūt sarvam āyodhanaśiro mahat ||
Sañjaya sprach: Von den Pfeilen des Sohnes Dronas überdeckt, war dort nichts mehr klar zu erkennen. Das ganze weite Schlachtfeld—gleichsam Haupt und Herz des Kampfes—schien sich in eine Masse von Pfeilen zu verwandeln, als wäre der Krieg selbst zu einem einzigen, blendenden Waffensturm geworden.
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores how unchecked martial force can eclipse discernment: when the battlefield is overwhelmed by weapons, clarity and humane judgment vanish. It implicitly warns that in war, perception and moral orientation are easily obscured, even for observers, as violence becomes all-consuming.
Sañjaya describes the intensity of Aśvatthāman’s arrow-shower. The battlefield is so densely filled and covered with arrows that nothing can be distinguished; the main arena of combat appears transformed into a single mass of missiles.
