मांसशोणितपड्किन्यो घोररूपा: सुदारुणा: । नदी: प्रवर्तयामासु: शोणितौघविवर्धिनी:,उनके भीतर मांस और रक्तकी ही कीचड़ जमी थी। रक्तके प्रवाहको बढ़ानेवाली उन घोर एवं भयंकर नदियोंको वहाँ योद्धाओंने प्रवाहित किया था
māṃsaśoṇitapaṅkinyo ghorarūpāḥ sudāruṇāḥ | nadīḥ pravartayāmāsuḥ śoṇitaughavivardhinīḥ ||
Sañjaya sprach: Ströme, deren Bett Morast aus Fleisch und Blut war—schrecklich von Gestalt und überaus grauenvoll—wurden dort zum Fließen gebracht und schwollen von Sturzbächen des Blutes an.
