Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a battlefield ethic of prioritization and resolve: remove the immediate, powerful impediment first (Bhima), and only then can one meet the principal opponent (Arjuna). It reflects the kshatriya context where strategic sequencing supports the pursuit of one’s martial objective.

Sanjaya reports a tactical assertion within the Kurukshetra war: if the addressed warrior can repel Bhima, the path opens to an encounter with Arjuna (Phalguna). The statement situates Bhima as a formidable barrier before reaching Arjuna.
