Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds the ideal that even warfare is expected to be conducted within a framework of nyāya—order, propriety, and rule—so that tactical decisions (vyūha and counter-vyūha) are not merely about power but about disciplined, accountable conduct.

Sañjaya, narrating the battlefield events, raises (or relays) the question of how the forces were properly divided and stationed, and specifically how the Pāṇḍavas responded by arranging a counter-formation against the Kaurava side.
