कर्णभीमसमागमः | Karṇa–Bhīma Encounter
समयश्न हि मे वीर कश्रिद् वैकर्तनं प्रति । उत्सूजेयं यथाश्रद्धमहं वाचो5स्य संनिधौ,वीरवर! परंतु वैकर्तन कर्णको मेरी एक शर्तका पालन करना होगा। मैं इसके समीप जो जीमें आयेगा, वैसी बातें करूँगा
samayaśna hi me vīra kaścid vaikartanaṃ prati | utsṛjeyaṃ yathāśraddham ahaṃ vāco ’sya saṃnidhau ||
Śalya sprach: „O Held, ich habe in der Tat eine Bedingung, die ich Vaikartana (Karna) stelle. Nimmt er sie an, so werde ich in seiner eigenen Gegenwart die Worte aussprechen, die mir in den Sinn kommen, gemäß meiner Überzeugung.“
शल्य उवाच
The verse highlights ethical speech in a martial context: Śalya insists on the freedom to speak frankly, guided by his inner conviction, even before a great warrior. It frames counsel as something that must be honest rather than merely pleasing.
Śalya sets a condition regarding Karna (Vaikartana): if Karna accepts it, Śalya will speak openly in Karna’s presence, saying whatever he feels compelled to say. This prepares the ground for sharp, candid remarks amid the tensions of the war.
