Adhyāya 31
यथा शल्य विजानीषे एवमेतदसंशयम् । अभिप्रायस्तु मे कश्चित् तं निबोध जनेश्वर
yathā śalya vijānīṣe evam etad asaṁśayam | abhiprāyas tu me kaścit taṁ nibodha janeśvara ||
Sañjaya sprach: „O König Śalya, es ist genau so, wie du es verstehst—daran besteht nicht der geringste Zweifel. Doch hege ich eine andere Absicht; höre sie aufmerksam an, o Herr der Menschen.“
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights careful discernment in counsel: even when another’s understanding is correct, a speaker may carry a further purpose. Ethical communication involves clarifying intention and inviting attentive listening before judgment.
Sañjaya addresses King Śalya, affirming that Śalya’s understanding is correct and beyond doubt, but signals that he has an additional, distinct intention to convey, urging Śalya to listen closely.
