Chapter 99: Sātyaki and Duḥśāsana’s engagement

क्षीबा इवान्ये चोन्मत्ता रज्भेष्विव च वारणा: | उच्चुक्रुशु रथान्योन्यं जघ्नुरन्योन्यमेव च,रंगस्थलके समान उस रणक्षेत्रमें अन्य बहुत-से मत्त और उन्मत्त हाथी एक-दूसरेको देखकर चिग्घाड़ते और परस्पर आघात-प्रत्याघात करते थे

sañjaya uvāca | kṣībā ivānye conmattā rajjveṣv iva ca vāraṇāḥ | uccukruśu rathān anyonyaṃ jaghnur anyonyam eva ca ||

Sañjaya sprach: Wie berauschte Männer und wie Elefanten, die rasend geworden und gleichsam in Seile verstrickt sind, brüllten viele andere auf jenem Schlachtfeld laut auf; sie prallten gegen die Wagen der anderen und schlugen immer wieder aufeinander ein. Das Bild zeigt, wie, wenn Zorn und Verblendung die Krieger übermannen, Urteilskraft und Zügelung zusammenbrechen und die Gewalt blind wird—selbst gegen die, die in der Nähe stehen.
