Educational Q&A

The verse frames war as a moral and existential crisis: a blind king, bound by attachment, seeks details of a terrifying duel. It highlights how leaders’ desires and fears drive inquiry, while the narrative invites reflection on responsibility, the costs of conflict, and the limits of control amid fate and violence.

Dhṛtarāṣṭra asks Sañjaya to describe how the midnight confrontation occurred between Karṇa and Ghaṭotkaca, who had engaged each other in fierce combat. This question introduces the detailed account of their dreadful night battle.
