Educational Q&A

The verse urges restraint of anger and the practice of forgiveness, especially within one’s own side in war. Duryodhana frames forbearance as honorable conduct (mānada) and discourages internal hostility toward an ally (Karṇa).

Duryodhana addresses Aśvatthāman to pacify him and prevent a rupture among the Kaurava allies. He asks Aśvatthāman to forgive and insists that anger should not be directed at Karṇa, emphasizing unity and loyalty in the midst of the conflict.
