Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical gravity of war: even when conflict is imminent, it is approached through disciplined order (vyūha) and responsible leadership. It frames battle not as chaos but as a duty-bound, strategically governed act—thereby intensifying the moral scrutiny of those who choose and direct violence.

Sanjaya reports the battlefield scene: the Kaurava forces are already arranged in formal battle formation, designed by Bhishma, renowned for mastery of military arrays. The address to “Madhava” situates Krishna as the key witness and guide as the confrontation is about to unfold.
