Sañjaya sprach: Die Schlachtordnung war ganz erfüllt von den vornehmsten Kämpfern, dazu von Elefanten und Fußvolk; und ringsum wurde sie von vielen Tausenden von Streitwagen umschlossen—ein dicht gedrängter, wohlgeschützter Verband, der disziplinierte Kriegsordnung und den ernsten Entschluss zum Kampf verkündete.

Sañjaya is reporting to Dhṛtarāṣṭra the appearance of a battle-array: it is densely filled with leading fighters and supported by elephants and foot-soldiers, while thousands of chariots surround it on all sides, indicating a carefully defended and imposing formation.
