Even in warfare, dharma is upheld through disciplined skill, courage, and respectful recognition of worthy conduct. Bhīṣma’s praise models ethical valor: acknowledging excellence without malice, and treating combat as a duty-bound contest rather than personal hatred.
Sañjaya reports that Bhīṣma, observing Arjuna’s swift and effective maneuver, openly commends him with honorific epithets (“Pārtha,” “mahābāhu,” “Pāṇḍunandana”), signaling admiration for Arjuna’s prowess and readiness to engage him in direct battle.
