Vāsudeva-Māhātmya: Duryodhana’s Inquiry and Bhīṣma’s Theological Account of Keśava

Educational Q&A

Even in a just cause, uncontrolled wrath can endanger dharma. The verse highlights the ethical necessity of restraint and responsible intervention—Arjuna physically prevents Kṛṣṇa’s impulsive advance, preserving order and the larger moral framework of the war.

Kṛṣṇa, provoked by Bhīṣma’s fierce onslaught and the crisis on the battlefield, rushes toward Bhīṣma. Arjuna, alarmed, braces himself and grabs Kṛṣṇa by the feet, forcibly stopping him before he completes ten steps.
