भीष्मपर्व — अध्याय ६२: वासुदेवमहात्म्यप्रशंसा (देव–ब्रह्मसंवादः)
पुनरावर्ततां तेषां वेग आसीद् विशाम्पते । पूर्वत: सागरस्थेव चन्द्रस्योदयनं प्रति,महाराज! पुनः लौटते हुए उन योद्धाओंका महान् वेग चन्द्रोदयके समय बढ़ते हुए महासागरके समान जान पड़ता था
punarāvartatāṁ teṣāṁ vega āsīd viśāmpate | pūrvataḥ sāgarastheva candrasyodayanaṁ prati, mahārāja |
Sañjaya sprach: „O Herr des Volkes, als jene Krieger wieder umkehrten, schwoll ihr Ansturm an—wie der Ozean, der sich erhebt, dem Erscheinen des Mondes am östlichen Himmel entgegen, o König.“ Das Gleichnis betont, wie in der moralischen Brandung des Krieges der gemeinsame Entschluss erneut anschwellen kann und die Kämpfer mit einer Kraft, die natürlich und unwiderstehlich wirkt, zurück in den Streit trägt.
