Chapter 47: Krauñca-vyūha Deployment and Conch-Signals

ऋषयश्न महाभागा: पुरस्कृत्य शतक्रतुम् । समीयुस््तत्र सहिता द्रष्ट॑ं तद् वैशसं महत्
sañjaya uvāca | ṛṣayaś ca mahābhāgāḥ puraskṛtya śatakratum | samīyus tatra sahitā draṣṭuṃ tad vaiśasaṃ mahat ||
Sañjaya sprach: Die gesegneten großen ṛṣis, die Śatakratu (Indra) an ihre Spitze stellten, versammelten sich dort einmütig, um jenes gewaltige und schreckliche Gemetzel zu schauen. Das Bild zog selbst Götter, Gandharvas, Pitṛs, Siddhas und Cāraṇas als Zuschauer an und zeigte, wie die Gewalt des Krieges zu einem kosmischen Ereignis wird, das die Ordnung des Dharma und die Folgen menschlicher Entscheidungen prüft.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights that the war’s violence is not merely political but morally and cosmically significant: even exalted sages gather to witness it, implying that adharma and its consequences become visible on a grand stage, inviting reflection on responsibility and the cost of conflict.
Sañjaya reports that great sages assemble at the battlefield, with Indra placed at their forefront, to observe the immense carnage unfolding—framing the Kurukṣetra conflict as an event watched by higher beings.
