Field, Knower, Knowledge, and the Knowable
पुरोहितोंमें मुखिया बृहस्पति मुझको जानःं। हे पार्थ! मैं सेनापतियोंमें स्कन्द" और जलाशयोंमें समुद्र हूँ ।।
purohitānāṁ mukhyaṁ bṛhaspatiṁ māṁ viddhi pārtha | senānīnām ahaṁ skandaḥ sarasām asmi sāgaraḥ || maharṣīṇāṁ bhṛgur ahaṁ girām asmy ekam akṣaram | yajñānāṁ japa-yajño 'smi sthāvarāṇāṁ himālayaḥ ||
Wisse, o Pārtha: Unter den Priestern bin Ich Bṛhaspati, der Vornehmste; unter den Heerführern bin Ich Skanda; unter den Gewässern bin Ich der Ozean. Unter den großen Sehern bin Ich Bhṛgu; unter den gesprochenen Lauten bin Ich die eine unvergängliche Silbe: Oṁ. Unter den Opfern bin Ich das Opfer der Wiederholung (japa); und unter dem Unbeweglichen bin Ich der Himālaya.
अजुन उवाच
The Lord teaches that the Divine can be recognized through the highest, most exemplary presence in each category—spiritual authority (Bṛhaspati), command (Skanda), vastness (ocean), seerhood (Bhṛgu), sacred sound (Oṁ), inward worship (japa-yajña), and immovable steadfastness (Himālaya). This trains Arjuna to see a unifying sacred order behind diverse forms, strengthening devotion and clarity amid moral crisis.
In the section on divine manifestations (vibhūtis), Kṛṣṇa answers Arjuna’s request to know how the Supreme can be contemplated in the world. He lists representative excellences so Arjuna can anchor his mind in remembrance of the Divine even while facing the duties and terrors of war.
