अचिन्तयित्वा तान् बाणान् पिता देवब्रतस्तव । अर्जुन समरे क़रुद्धं वारयामास सायकै:,परंतु आपके पितृतुल्य देवव्रतने उन बाणोंकी कुछ भी परवा न करके समरमें कुपित हुए अर्जुनको अपने बाणोंद्वारा रोक दिया
acintayitvā tān bāṇān pitā devabratas tava | arjuna samare kruddhaṃ vārayāmāsa sāyakaiḥ ||
Sañjaya sprach: Doch Devavrata (Bhīṣma), der Älteste, der dir wie ein Vater war, achtete jene Pfeile nicht und hielt Arjuna, der im Getümmel des Kampfes zornentbrannt war, mit seinen eigenen Geschossen zurück.
संजय उवाच
Even in a dharmic war, anger can cloud judgment; the verse highlights restraint and disciplined mastery. Bhīṣma’s act of checking Arjuna suggests that true martial excellence includes the capacity to curb destructive fury and to uphold order through controlled force.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīṣma (Devavrata), unfazed by incoming arrows, countered and halted Arjuna’s furious advance in battle by showering him with his own arrows, effectively restraining him on the field.
