कुरुभि: सहित भीष्म युध्यमानं परंतप । अर्जुनं च सपाज्चाल्यं संशयो विजये5भवत्‌,शत्रुओंको संताप देनेवाले नरेश! एक ओरसे कौरवोंसहित भीष्म युद्ध कर रहे थे और दूसरी ओरसे पांचालदेशीय वीरोंके सहित अर्जुन उनका सामना कर रहे थे, यह देखकर सबके मनमें संशय हो गया कि किस पक्षकी विजय होगी

sañjaya uvāca | kurubhiḥ sahitaḥ bhīṣmaḥ yudhyamānaṃ parantapa | arjunaṃ ca sapāñcālyaṃ saṃśayo vijaye 'bhavat ||

Sañjaya sprach: O Bezwinger der Feinde, als Bhīṣma, von den Kurus gestützt, auf der einen Seite kämpfte und Arjuna, zusammen mit den Helden von Pāñcāla, ihm auf der anderen entgegentrat, erhob sich in allen Herzen der Zweifel, welche Partei den Sieg erringen werde.
