भीष्मस्य शरशय्या-प्राप्तिः
Bhīṣma’s Fall to the Arrow-Bed
अन्योन्यस्य रणे क्रुद्धौ चिक्षिपाते नरर्षभौ । क्रोधमें भरे हुए वे दोनों नरश्रेष्ठ युद्धमें एक-दूसरेपर लोहारके द्वारा माँजकर साफ किये हुए सूर्यके समान तेजस्वी बाणोंका प्रहार कर रहे थे || ४७ ई ।। भीमो भीष्मवधाकाड्क्षी सौमदत्ति महारथम्,भीमसेन भीष्मके वधकी इच्छा रखकर महारथी भूरिश्रवापर चोट करते थे और भूरिश्रवा भीष्मकी विजय चाहता हुआ पाण्डुकुमार भीमसेनपर प्रहार करता था। वे दोनों युद्धमें एक-दूसरेके अस्त्रोंका प्रतीकार करते हुए लड़ रहे थे

bhīmasena bhīṣma ke vadha kī icchā rakhkar mahārathī bhūriśravā par coṭ karate the aura bhūriśravā bhīṣma kī vijaya cāhatā huā pāṇḍukumāra bhīmasena par prahāra karatā thā |
te donoṃ yuddha meṃ ekadūsare ke astroṃ kā pratīkāra karate hue laḍa rahe the |
Sañjaya sagte: In der Wut der Schlacht schleuderten jene beiden Helden, Stiere unter den Männern, ihre Waffen gegeneinander und trafen mit Pfeilen, die wie die Sonne aufblitzten, als wären sie eben erst vom Schmied blank poliert. Bhima, auf Bhishmas Tod bedacht, griff den großen Wagenkämpfer Saumadatti (Bhūrishravā) an; und Bhūrishravā, auf Bhishmas Sieg aus, schlug gegen Bhima, den Sohn Pandus, zurück. So kämpften sie weiter, jeder die Geschosse des anderen abwehrend — persönliche Gelübde und Lagerloyalität trieben ihre Gewalt im größeren, moralisch bedrängenden Pflichtgefüge des Krieges.
