Bhīṣma’s unmatched momentum and the assault with Śikhaṇḍin in the lead
त्वरमाणं रणे यत्तं कृतवर्मा न्यवारयत् | राजन! कृतवर्माने भीष्मजीके निकट पहुँचकर युद्धके लिये उतावलीपूर्वक प्रयत्न करनेवाले धृष्टद्युम्नको रोका ।। भीमसेन सुसंक्रुद्धं गाड़ेयस्य वधैषिणम्
tvaramāṇaṃ raṇe yattaṃ kṛtavarmā nyavārayat | rājan kṛtavarmāṇe bhīṣmajīke nikaṭaṃ pahuñcakar yuddhāya utāvalīpūrvakaṃ prayatnamānaṃ dhṛṣṭadyumnam arodhayat || bhīmasenaḥ susaṃkruddhaṃ gāḍeyasya vadhaiṣiṇam |
Sañjaya sprach: O König, Kṛtavarmā hielt Dhṛṣṭadyumna zurück, als dieser eilig in die Schlacht stürmte, begierig, nach dem Herankommen an Bhīṣma weiter vorzudringen und zu kämpfen. Zugleich rückte Bhīmasena, von wilder Wut erfüllt und auf den Tod Gāḍeyas aus, mit tödlichem Vorsatz vor.
संजय उवाच
Even in righteous warfare, intention and self-control matter: warriors may be driven by anger and the urge to kill, yet the narrative highlights restraint and tactical checking by others, reminding that dharma in war includes discipline, not merely ferocity.
Dhṛṣṭadyumna rushes toward Bhīṣma to fight, but Kṛtavarmā restrains him; at the same time Bhīma, furious, moves with the aim of killing the warrior Gāḍeya.
