Book 14, Chapter 89
यत् कृतं कुरुराजेन मरुत्तस्यानुकुर्वता । महाराज मरुत्तके मार्गका अनुसरण करनेवाले राजा युधिष्ठिरने उस समय जैसा महान् त्याग किया था, वैसा इस संसारमें दूसरा कोई राजा नहीं कर सकेगा
yat kṛtaṃ kururājena maruttasyānukurvatā | mahārāja maruttake mārga-kā anusaraṇa karanevāle rājā yudhiṣṭhirane usa samaya jaisā mahān tyāga kiyā thā, vaisā asmin saṃsāre dvitīyo na kaścid rājā kartuṃ śakṣyati |
Vaiśaṃpāyana sprach: Was der Kuru-König tat, Marutta nachahmend —dem Pfad des großen Königs Marutta folgend—, eine so erhabene Entsagung, wie König Yudhiṣṭhira sie damals vollbrachte, wird kein anderer König in dieser Welt zu vollbringen vermögen.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True kingship is measured not merely by power or conquest but by tyāga—ethical renunciation and generosity—performed in conscious imitation of righteous exemplars from the past.
Vaiśampāyana praises Yudhiṣṭhira’s extraordinary act of sacrifice/renunciation, stating that he followed the precedent of the ancient king Marutta and that no other king in the world could match such a deed.
