Chapter 57
एवंविधे ममैते वै कुण्डले परमार्चिते । त्रिषु लोकेषु विज्ञाते तदभिज्ञानमानय
evaṁvidhe mamāite vai kuṇḍale paramārcite | triṣu lokeṣu vijñāte tadabhijñānam ānaya |
Vaiśampāyana sprach: „So sind diese beiden Ohrringe, die mir gehören — höchst verehrt und in den drei Welten weithin berühmt. Wenn du also gekommen bist, sie auf Befehl des Königs zu nehmen, so bring ein Erkennungszeichen, einen Beweis dieser Vollmacht.“
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even when an action is claimed to be backed by royal command, dharma requires verification: one should not surrender valuable property or comply with demands without proper identification and proof of authority.
The speaker describes his renowned pair of earrings and challenges the claimant: if the earrings are being demanded on the king’s order, the claimant must present a clear token or credential that confirms the legitimacy of that request.
