Uttanka’s Viśvarūpa Request and the ‘Uttanka Clouds’ Boon (उत्तङ्क-विष्वरूप-दर्शनम्)
होतारमपि हव्यं च विद्धि मां भूगुनन्दन । अध्वर्यु: कल्पकश्नापि हवि: परमसंस्कृतम्
hotāram api havyaṁ ca viddhi māṁ bhṛgunandana | adhvaryuḥ kalpakaś cāpi haviḥ paramasaṁskṛtam ||
Vāyu sprach: „Erkenne mich auch, o Wonne der Bhṛgus, als den Hotṛ und als die Opfergabe selbst, die darzubringen würdig ist. Ebenso bin ich der Adhvaryu und der Ordner des Ritus (kalpaka); und das havis, die Opfergabe, wird durch rechte Weihe aufs Höchste veredelt.“
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse teaches the immanence of the divine within sacrificial order: the same cosmic power (Vāyu) can be understood as the officiating priestly functions (Hotṛ, Adhvaryu), the organizer of the rite, and even the oblation itself—emphasizing unity behind ritual roles and the ethical demand for proper consecration (saṁskāra) and right performance.
Vāyu addresses a Bhṛgu-descendant interlocutor and identifies himself with key components of the yajña: the invoker priest, the performing priest, the arranger of procedures, and the sanctified offering—framing the sacrifice as a manifestation of a single divine principle rather than merely a human ceremony.
