Educational Q&A

Human beings follow divergent ethical orientations: some uphold ahiṁsā, some pursue hiṁsā, some seek moral merit and social honor, and some reject the very reality or value of such distinctions. The verse highlights moral plurality and the presence of denialist or nihilistic attitudes alongside dharmic ideals.

Vāyudeva is speaking and classifying different kinds of people by their conduct and worldview—those devoted to non-violence, those inclined to violence, those marked by merit and fame, and those who deny that these categories have any real standing.
