Educational Q&A

Mental well-being is characterized by balance among the inner qualities (guṇas). When one quality becomes dominant or excessive, one should apply a deliberate corrective discipline to restore equilibrium.

Vāyudeva is giving didactic instruction, defining the sign of a healthy state (svastha-lakṣaṇa) as the evenness of qualities, and indicating that specific remedies are taught when any one quality rises excessively.
