Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira
That which cannot be prevented despite effort is to be understood as daiva (destiny/divine dispensation); ethical maturity involves recognizing limits of control and responding with composure and right conduct rather than fruitless opposition.
Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, frames an event or outcome as unavoidable, characterizing it as daiva—something no one can effectively obstruct—thereby guiding the listener toward acceptance and sober judgment.
