The colophon frames the episode as dharma-centered: honoring ancestors through śrāddha and receiving guidance through a sage’s presence. It emphasizes continuity of moral duty even after great upheavals—ritual remembrance and rightful giving sustain social and spiritual order.
This line is a concluding colophon marking the end of the chapter: it identifies the larger work (Mahābhārata), the parva (Āśramavāsika), the internal section (Nārada’s arrival), and the chapter’s focus (the giving of śrāddha), stating that this is the thirty-ninth adhyāya.
