The verse highlights the dharmic importance of properly distinguishing and dedicating offerings meant for the gods, and frames the encounter with a divine figure as an auspicious, ethically charged moment—suggesting reverence, ritual propriety, and openness to the extraordinary within sacred contexts.
Bhīṣma is describing offerings that are set aside for the gods and then announces that, on that very day, the listener is to witness something wondrous: a radiant youth identified as the son of the Fire-god (Agni).
