Pitṛ-śrāddha-haviḥ-phala-nirdeśa
Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
सुवर्णदाने च मया कथितास्ते गुणा विभो । तस्मात् सुवर्ण विप्रेभ्य: प्रयच्छ ददतां वर
suvarṇadāne ca mayā kathitās te guṇā vibho | tasmāt suvarṇa viprebhyaḥ prayaccha dadatāṃ vara prabho ||
„O Mächtiger, ich habe dir die Tugenden und Verdienste dargelegt, die mit der Gabe von Gold verbunden sind. Darum, o Herr—der Beste unter den Gebenden—spende nun Gold als Geschenk an die Brahmanen.“
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse teaches dāna-dharma: having understood the merits of suvarṇa-dāna (donating gold), one should actually practice it—especially by giving to worthy recipients such as Brahmins—since ethical instruction is meant to culminate in action.
Vasiṣṭha, as the speaker, concludes his praise of the greatness of donating gold and urges the addressed lordly figure to proceed from hearing the teaching to performing the act: to give gold to Brahmins.
