महाभागा भवत्यो वै शरण्या: शरणागताम् । परित्रायन्तु मां नित्यं भजमानामनिन्दिताम्,तुम महान् सौभाग्यशालिनी और सबको शरण देनेवाली हो। मैं भी तुम्हारी शरणमें आयी हूँ। तुम्हारी भक्त हूँ। मुझमें कोई दोष भी नहीं है; अतः तुम मेरी रक्षा करो--मुझे अपना लो
mahābhāgā bhavatyō vai śaraṇyāḥ śaraṇāgatām | paritrāyantu māṃ nityaṃ bhajamānām aninditām ||
Bhīṣma sprach: „O ihr überaus vom Glück Begünstigten, ihr seid wahrhaft die Zuflucht derer, die Schutz suchen. Beschützt mich allezeit — mich, der ich zu euch gekommen bin, um Zuflucht zu nehmen, der euch verehrt und ohne Schuld ist. Darum nehmt mich an und gewährt mir euren Schutz.“
