प्राणदानाद्धि परमं न दानमिह विद्यते । श्रुतं हि ते महाबाहो लोमशस्यापि तद्धबच:

Transliteration

prāṇadānād dhi paramaṁ na dānam iha vidyate | śrutaṁ hi te mahābāho lomaśasyāpi tad vacaḥ ||

Translation

Bhishma sprach: „Wahrlich, in dieser Welt gibt es keine Gabe, die höher wäre als die Gabe des Lebens. Denn wer einem anderen Nahrung gibt, ist, als gäbe er ihm den eigenen Atem. O Mächtigarmiger, du hast eben dieses Wort auch vom Weisen Lomaśa gehört.“
