Nṛga-upākhyāna: Brāhmaṇa-sva and the Consequence of Misappropriated Gift-Cattle (कृकलास-रूपे नृगोपाख्यानम्)
भीष्म उवाच शृणुष्व मम कौन्तेय तिलदानस्य यत् फलम् | निशम्य च यथान्यायं प्रयच्छ कुरुसत्तम,भीष्मजीने कहा--कुन्तीनन्दन! कुरुश्रेष्ठ! तिलदानका जो फल है, वह मुझसे सुनो और सुनकर यथोचित रूपसे उसका दान करो
bhīṣma uvāca: śṛṇuṣva mama kaunteya tiladānasya yat phalam | niśamya ca yathānyāyaṁ prayaccha kuru-sattama ||
Bhīṣma sprach: „O Sohn der Kuntī, Bester der Kurus, höre von mir die Frucht der Sesamgabe. Hast du es vernommen, so spende in rechter Weise, wie es der Ordnung entspricht.“
भीष्म उवाच
Charity should be performed with knowledge of its ethical and spiritual consequences, and it should be given in a proper, rule-aligned manner (yathānyāyam), not casually or improperly.
Bhishma, instructing a Kuru prince (addressed as Kaunteya and Kuru-sattama), introduces a teaching on the merits of donating sesame seeds and urges the listener to give accordingly after hearing the prescribed results and method.
