अन्नदान-प्रशंसा (Praise of the Gift of Food) | Annadāna-Praśaṃsā

क्रियानियमितान्‌ साधुन्‌ पुत्रदारैश्व॒ कर्शितान्‌ अयाचमानान्‌ कौन्तेय सर्वोपायैर्निमन्त्रयेत्‌,कुन्तीनन्दन! जो स्त्री-पुत्रोंक॒ पालनमें असमर्थ होनेके कारण विशेष कष्ट उठाते हैं; परंतु किसीसे याचना नहीं करते और सदा सत्कर्मोमें ही संलग्न रहते हैं, उन श्रेष्ठ पुरुषोंको प्रत्येक उपायसे सहायता देनेके लिये निमन्त्रित करना चाहिये

kriyā-niyamitān sādhūn putra-dāraiś ca karśitān | ayācamānān kaunteya sarvopāyair nimantrayet ||

Bhīṣma sprach: „O Sohn der Kuntī, man soll mit allen Mitteln jene tugendhaften Menschen einladen und unterstützen, die in rechter Lebensführung diszipliniert sind, vom Unterhalt von Frau und Kindern aufgerieben werden und doch niemanden um etwas bitten. Solchen selbstbeherrschten Hausvätern gebührt Hilfe, ohne dass man wartet, bis sie darum ersuchen.“
