दैव–पुरुषकार-प्रश्नः

Daiva–Puruṣakāra Inquiry: Fate and Human Effort

स्वं चेत्‌ कर्मफलं न स्यात्‌ सर्वमेवाफलं भवेत्‌ । लोको दैवं समालक्ष्य उदासीनो भवेन्ननु,यदि अपने कर्मोंका फल न प्राप्त हो तो सारा कर्म ही निष्फल हो जाय और सब लोग भाग्यको ही देखते हुए कर्म करनेसे उदासीन हो जायेँ

svaṁ cet karmaphalaṁ na syāt sarvam evāphalaṁ bhavet | loko daivaṁ samālakṣya udāsīno bhaven nanu ||

Bhishma sprach: „Wenn die eigenen Taten nicht ihre gebührenden Früchte trügen, würde jedes Handeln fruchtlos. Und sähen die Menschen nur noch das Schicksal (daiva) als entscheidende Macht, so würden sie gewiss gleichgültig werden und jedes zielgerichtete Bemühen einstellen.“
