Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: Abhaya, Anugraha, and the Ethics of Honoring the Worthy
brāhmaṇyaṁ me kulasyāstu bhagavann eṣa me varaḥ | punaś cākhyātum icchāmi bhagavan vistareṇa vai ||
The verse highlights the ethical ideal that true “Brahminhood” is sought as a cultivated quality of life—learning, restraint, and dharmic conduct—worthy enough to be requested as a boon for one’s lineage, and that such matters deserve careful, detailed instruction.
Kuśika addresses a revered authority (bhagavān), asking for a boon that his family may become Brahmin in status and conduct, and then requests that the teaching or account connected with this request be explained again, more fully.
