Cyavana–Kuśika Dialogue on Lineage, Conflict, and Transmission

Educational Q&A

True dharma is shown by steadiness and freedom from asūyā (envy/spite/fault-finding) even when one’s hospitality or efforts appear to be rejected. The couple’s restraint demonstrates ethical maturity: they do not judge the sage’s conduct, but maintain reverence and composure.

A Bhargava sage observes that the husband and wife remain unperturbed. He abruptly enters the bathing chamber and, despite the king’s prepared royal bathing arrangements, he ignores them and vanishes again in the king’s sight. The couple still does not harbor resentment or criticism toward him.
