Cyavana’s Water-Vow and the Ethics of Cohabitation (स्नेह-सम्वास-धर्मः)

स्‍त्रीणां तु पतिदायाद्यमुपभोगफल स्मृतम्‌ | नापहारं स्त्रिय: कुर्यु: पतिवित्तात्‌ कथंचन

strīṇāṃ tu patidāyādyam upabhogaphalaṃ smṛtam | nāpahāraṃ striyaḥ kuryuḥ pativittāt kathaṃcana ||

Bhishma sprach: Für Frauen gilt nach der Überlieferung, dass der Anteil, der ihnen aus dem Vermögen des Gatten zufällt, seinen Ertrag vor allem im Gebrauch und Genuss trägt. Darum darf man Frauen in keiner Weise dessen berauben, was ihnen aus dem Reichtum des Mannes gehört; und was als eigenes Gut der Frau gegeben wurde, darf weder von Söhnen noch von anderen Erben weggenommen werden.
