Varṇasaṃkara: Causes, Classifications, and Conduct-based Recognition (वर्णसंकरः—हेतु-जाति-आचारनिर्णयः)

तस्यार्थेडपत्यमीहेत येन न्‍्यायेन शक्नुयात्‌ । न तस्मान्मन्त्रवत्कार्य कश्चित्‌ कुर्वीत किंचन

bhīṣma uvāca | tasyārthe ’patyam īheta yena nyāyena śaknuyāt | na tasmān mantravat kāryaḥ kaścit kurvīta kiñcana ||

Bhīṣma sprach: „Sie soll Nachkommenschaft nur für ihn erstreben (für den, der einen rechtmäßigen Anspruch auf sie hat) und nur auf solche Weise, wie es nach Gerechtigkeit und Schicklichkeit möglich ist. Daher darf kein anderer Mann irgendeine Handlung an ihr vollziehen—etwa eine vedische, von Mantras begleitete Eheschließung—oder sonst etwas, das einen konkurrierenden Eheanspruch begründen würde.“
