किमागमनकृत्य ते सर्व प्रब्रूहि मे नूप । यत्‌ ते प्रियं तत्‌ करिष्ये न मे5त्रास्ति विचारणा,बृहस्पतिके ज्येष्ठ पुत्र भरद्वाजजी बड़े शीलवान्‌ और दिवोदासके पुरोहित थे। उन्होंने राजाको उपस्थित देखकर पूछा--“नरेश्वर! तुम्हें यहाँ आनेकी क्या आवश्यकता पड़ी? मुझे अपना सब समाचार बता दो। तुम्हारा जो भी प्रिय कार्य होगा उसे मैं करूँगा। इसके लिये मेरे मनमें कोई अन्यथा विचार नहीं होगा”

kim āgamanakṛtyaṃ te sarvaṃ prabrūhi me nṛpa | yat te priyaṃ tat kariṣye na me 'trāsti vicāraṇā ||

Bhīṣma sprach: „O König, sage mir vollständig, zu welchem Zweck du hierher gekommen bist. Berichte mir alle Einzelheiten. Was dir lieb ist—welche Aufgabe du auch wünschst—die werde ich tun. In dieser Sache gibt es in meinem Sinn kein Zögern.“
