Tīrtha-vaṃśa Upadeśa: Instruction on the Fruits of Sacred Waters
भीष्म उवाच दैवं पौर्वाह्निकं कुर्यादपराह्ने तु पैतृकम् मड़लाचारसम्पन्न: कृतशौच: प्रयत्नवान्,भीष्मजीने कहा--राजन्! मनुष्यको चाहिये कि वह स्नान आदिसे शुद्ध हो, मांगलिक कृत्य सम्पन्न करके प्रयत्नशील हो पूर्वन्निमें देव-सम्बन्धी दान, अपराह्नमें पैतृक दान और मध्याह्नकालमें मनुष्य-सम्बन्धी दान आदरपूर्वक करे। असमयमें किया हुआ दान राक्षसोंका भाग माना गया है
bhīṣma uvāca: daivaṃ paurvāhṇikaṃ kuryād aparāhṇe tu paitṛkam | maṅgalācāra-sampannaḥ kṛtaśaucaḥ prayatnavān ||
Bhīṣma sprach: „O König, die Riten und Gaben für die Götter soll man am Vormittag vollziehen, die für die Ahnen am Nachmittag. Nachdem man die Reinigung (etwa durch ein Bad) vollendet und glückverheißende Observanzen eingehalten hat, soll man mit Eifer handeln. Eine Gabe zur Unzeit gilt als Anteil der Rākṣasas.“
