Tīrtha-vaṃśa Upadeśa: Instruction on the Fruits of Sacred Waters
चिकित्सका देवलका वृथा नियमधारिण: । सोमविक्रयिणश्वैव राजन् नाहन्ति केतनम्,नरेश्वर! चिकित्सक या वैद्य, देवालयके पुजारी, पाखण्डी और सोमरस बेचनेवाले ब्राह्मण निमन्त्रण देने योग्य नहीं हैं
cikitsakā devalakā vṛthā niyamadhāriṇaḥ | somavikrayiṇaś caiva rājan nāhanti ketanam, nareśvara ||
Bhīṣma sprach: „O König, Herr der Menschen: Ärzte, Tempeldiener, die von einem Heiligtum abhängig sind (devalaka), solche, die Gelübde nur zum Schein halten —heuchlerische Asketen—, und Verkäufer von Soma gelten nicht als einladungswürdig.“
भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma lays down a dharma-based norm for ritual hospitality: invitations for sacred rites should go to those of sound conduct and proper livelihood; certain professions or hypocritical religious postures are treated as disqualifying in this context.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhīṣma addresses the king and enumerates categories of people who, according to the discussed ritual-ethical standards, are not to be invited to formal religious hospitality (such as śrāddha or similar rites).
