तद् दृष्टवा महदाश्चर्य दाशार्हा जातमन्यव: । तत्राजल्पन् मिथ: केचित् समाभाष्य परस्परम्
tad dṛṣṭvā mahad āścaryaṃ dāśārhā jātamanyavaḥ | tatrājalpan mithaḥ kecit samābhāṣya parasparam |
Als sie dieses große Wunder sahen, wurden die Dāśārhas (die Yādavas) von Zorn ergriffen. Dort begannen einige untereinander zu reden, das Geschehene zu erörtern und sich zu wundern, dass nur ein Brahmane eine solche Gefahr hätte ertragen und lebend auf jenem Wagen bleiben können.
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights how extraordinary events provoke reflection on worthiness and discipline: survival in extreme situations is implicitly linked to inner restraint and merit, while also showing how people may hastily generalize such merit into rigid claims about social categories (varṇa).
Vāyudeva reports that the Yādavas, shocked by a remarkable incident, become angry and begin discussing it among themselves, speaking mutually about how astonishing it was that someone could remain alive on the chariot—treating the episode as evidence of exceptional capability.
