Shloka 17

द्रष्टव्यं नैतदेवं हि कथं जायेदजो हि सः । स्मृतमाकाशमण्डं तु तस्माज्जात: पितामह:,परंतु ऐसा नहीं समझना चाहिये; क्योंकि जो अजन्मा है, वह जन्म कैसे ले सकता है? फिर भी जो उन्हें अण्डज कहा जाता है, उसका अभिप्राय यों समझना चाहिये। महाकाश ही यहाँ 'अण्ड' है, उससे पितामह प्रकट हुए हैं (इसलिये वे 'अण्डज' हैं)

draṣṭavyaṃ naitadevaṃ hi kathaṃ jāyed ajo hi saḥ | smṛtam ākāśamaṇḍaṃ tu tasmāj jātaḥ pitāmahaḥ ||

Arjuna sprach: „Dies darf nicht so wörtlich verstanden werden. Wie könnte der Ungeborene geboren werden? Der Ausdruck ‘aus einem Ei geboren’ ist hier nur eine bildhafte Bezeichnung: Die ungeheure Weite des Raumes selbst wird ‘Ei’ genannt, und aus ihr offenbart sich der Großvater (Brahmā). Darum heißt er ‘eiergeboren’ nur in diesem Sinn.“
