Educational Q&A

The verse teaches impartial goodwill: one should maintain the same benevolent, even-minded attitude toward both friends and enemies, meeting all with friendliness. Such equanimity and universal maitrī are presented as dharmic virtues that lead to heavenly attainment.

Śrī Maheśvara is instructing about ethical conduct and its results. He states that those who relate to others with friendliness and who do not let the mind be biased by categories of ‘friend’ and ‘enemy’ become fit to attain svarga.
