This line is a colophon (closing formula) rather than a new teaching: it signals that the chapter’s instruction—situated in the Dāna-dharma (ethics of giving) portion of Bhīṣma’s counsel—has concluded, emphasizing the text’s didactic framing of generosity as a key aspect of dharma.
The discourse pauses with a formal closure: the Mahābhārata identifies the book (Anuśāsana Parva), the subsection (Dāna-dharma), and the chapter count (137), indicating the end of that chapter’s content in the Gītā Press tradition.
