Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ

Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony

अर्द्धमानाश्च विबुधा ग्रहेण सुबलीयसा । शिवदत्तवरान्‌ जष्नुरसुरेन्द्रान सुरा भूशम्‌

arddhamānāś ca vibudhā graheṇa subalīyasā | śivadattavarān jaṣṇur asurendrān surā bhūśam ||

Vāsudeva sprach: „Als jener überaus mächtige Graha begann, die Götter zu bedrängen, schlugen die Devas — obgleich schwer in die Enge getrieben — zurück und besiegten die Herren der Asuras, die von Śiva gewährte Gaben empfangen hatten. So währte zwischen ihnen ein langes Ringen, das zeigt: Selbst göttlich geschützte Macht, wenn sie zur Unterdrückung missbraucht wird, ruft Widerstand und anhaltenden Konflikt hervor.“
