Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ

Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony

शक्रस्य तु वच: श्रुत्वा नाहं प्रीतमनाभवम्‌ । अब्रुवंश्व तदा हृष्टो देवराजमिदं वच:

śakrasya tu vacaḥ śrutvā nāhaṃ prītamanābhavam | abruvaṃś ca tadā hṛṣṭo devarājam idaṃ vacaḥ ||

Als ich Śakras Worte hörte, wurde mein Herz nicht froh. Doch nach außen Freude zeigend, wandte ich mich damals mit folgenden Worten an den König der Götter. Die Stelle betont eine disziplinierte innere Haltung: Man kann vor der Macht höfliche Fassung bewahren und zugleich innerlich ungebunden bleiben, ethisch wachsam darin, was man erbitten oder annehmen soll.
